How does CHP with radar id specific car in freeway traffic while CHP is on side of road with back to traffic?

Posted on October 6th, 2008 by admin in site targeted traffic

I was traveling south on hwy 5 traveling flow of traffice. CHP was parked on shoulder. Traffic was heavy averging 70 mph. As I passed CHP on right I saw him between the space of 2 big rigs and noticed he started to move. Traffic was slowing in response to this action and I moved into left lane but before doing so I let someone who was speeding pass on my left. I then moved into left lane and saw in rear view mirror that CHP was approaching. I moved back into right lane to let him pass and chase after speeder. Instead he dropped behind me and wrote me up for 81 mph. It took at least 10 to 20 seconds for CHP to drop in behind me. I am assuming he identified the speeder first by radar and then visually by looking in his rear view mirror. He lost site of the speeder because the big rigs blocked his view as the traffic went by and then pulled the first visual target he acqired after clearing traffic. How can he be so sure I am the guilty party and it wasn't someone else?

Best advise out of all this b.s. I am speaking out of experience. Go to court and fight it…tell the judge not guilty. The judge will set up a trial date. Come back to court an tell your story, but be careful about what you say. Think before you say something that will hurt your case. Only give specific answer to the questions don't use extra bs get off track to hurt your case. The judge don't want to hear your heartwarming life story anyways.I don't know what the law is in your state, but did the officer even show you the radar? Even if you are found guilty your fine is lowered most of the times. I live in the cali. That's what happened to me everytime. Best of all hire an attorney. Do a Google on TVC membership. they will find you a lawyer and you can cancel the membership anytime. I got a ticket for speeding…would've gotten my lic. suspended, but i got lucky because of my lawyer even though the officer had me on radar. Because of some technicality after some argument the judge said not guilty ….and i walked out the court with a fat smile an the cops left pissed off.

Some of the modern radar devices take a photograph of the car in addition to the speed

    Two things come to mind:
    1. He may have been using Laser, which is aimed at a specific car like a pistol.
    2. Radar generally picks up the first vehicle in a pack. If you were in front of a group the CHP tagged you.

One other factor - are you sure it was radar? Here in WA they nail a lot of people pacing by aircraft. You never notice the pacer - and then a trooper appears out of nowhere to write you up.
